Empowering God's Children

For students in grades 1 - 10. Empowering God’s Children® (An Archdiocese of Boston Program for Keeping Children Safe) is an age-appropriate comprehensive program through which educators and parents can give children and youth the tools they need to protect themselves and what to do if someone tries to overstep their boundaries. The Archdiocese of Boston is committed to safety and requires its parish communities to integrate this safety information into their programming.
This year’s theme, Physical Boundaries & Rules is developmentally appropriate for each age group and includes content and activities that reinforce the message. This Lesson will be implemented the last half hour of your child’s class - with the date TBA. If you do not want your child to participate you can opt out by submitting the Parent Opt Out Form.The Opt Out Form is kept on file at the Collaborative Office.

Teaching Safety: Empowering God's Children Program Overview
We must give our children the tools they need to be safe. The Teaching Safety program guide is a tool designed to assist parents and teachers in this important task. The Teaching Safety program is a vehicle through which parents, teachers, catechists, and youth ministers give children and young people the tools they need to protect themselves from those who might harm them.

From the Director, Evangelization and Faith Formation Ministries
Dear Parents,
The Reading Catholic Community Faith Formation Ministries is required by the Archdiocese of Boston to have a Safe Environment Program. A Safe Environment Program includes initiatives for the purpose of keeping All God's Children Safe.
Our community Safe Environment Program requires of all volunteers:
- An Annual Background Screening
- Virtus' Protecting God's Children Training
- Compliance with RCC's Code of Conduct & Harassment Prevention Policies
Additional to screening and educating volunteers, the community is required to offer the Archdiocesan approved program, Empowering All God's Children to children enrolled in Faith Formation Grades 1-10. This program teaches a culture of respect and faith, helping children and young people understand their own sacredness, the sacredness of others, and how to seek help.
Each year we will offer two classes: one in the Fall and one in the Spring during your child's Religious Education classes. Spring 2023, we will offer the one class on March 5-8th (during your child's regularly scheduled class) for those in Grades 1 and 3 thru 8.
