Welcome! Liturgical ministry is an excellent opportunity to fulfill your baptismal call of service to one another. Our liturgies utilize the talents and gifts that God has given this community to the fullest extent. Whether participation is through “behind the scenes” preparation and planning or through a public role of service within the Mass, parishioner contributions help our liturgies to be truly life-giving celebrations. Please prayerfully consider joining one of these ministries.
Opportunities in the Liturgical Ministry:
GREETERS
Greeters have the important position of greeting members and visitors at each Mass. They are the first person a visitor sees upon entering the parish and thereby, the first friendly face and extended hand potential members who are seeking Christ come in contact with. They are the face of Jesus. To be a Saturday or Sunday Mass greeter, please contact the parish office or talk to Mary Bares.
ALTAR SERVERS
Altar Servers serve by assisting the priest and deacons at Mass with the Liturgy and Eucharist. This ministry provides members of the parish with a true opportunity to function as lay ministers by reverently assisting the celebrant and/or deacon during Sunday Mass and at special liturgies throughout the year. Children may begin serving at age 10. Please encourage your children to assist. Older servers are also very welcome. If you or your child are interested in serving, please phone the Parish Office.
LECTORS
Lectors proclaim the Word of God clearly and understandably so that all who hear may respond. Practicing parishioners who are in good standing and have clear voices are welcome to speak with the Pastor about proclaiming God’s word for daily and weekly Masses.
EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION
Eucharistic Ministers, also called Extraordinary Ministers, assist with the distribution of Holy Communion during Mass. Volunteers must be practicing and supporting members of the parish and must be trained. They may also assist in bringing the Eucharist to the sick and homebound. This ministry is coordinated through the parish office. Please call the Parish Office if you are interested in becoming a Eucharistic Minister.
USHERS
These ministers are sometimes referred to as Greeters. Being a welcoming community is very important to us. Ushers are the first face of the parish. They greet those coming into our church, offer assistance to those in need, distribute parish bulletins, take up the collection, and distribute other materials as needed.
SACRISTANS
What does a sacristan do? Sacristans assist, facilitate, and provide support and coordination for other liturgical ministries.
As Sacristan, we have three main roles: Security–(of the sacristy and most importantly, the Eucharist), Mass Set Up and Clean Up, and Mass Coordinator.Security: We are responsible for assuring proper treatment of the Holy Species, namely that of the Sacred Blood and Blessed Sacrament during and after the celebration.
Mass set up and clean up vary slightly depending on the individual mass and presider.
As mass coordinator, a sacristan also assists the presider with whatever details/duties he needs done. The sacristan will check to make sure the altar servers are ready and in place as well as making sure the assigned Readers and key Extraordinary Ministers are present and ready to serve.
